HANDVO|| GUJARATI HANDVO RECIPE||

Handvo



Handvo is a traditional savory cake originating from Gujarat. It is often made from the Bottle Gourd Filling,But you can also add other vegetables. Handvo is a very healthy dish which you can eat anytime-Morning,Afternoon,evening. It actually just needs one word for description---YUMMY!

Ingredients:

For Handvo batter:-

1 cup raw rice

1 and 1/2 cup Split Chickpeas<Brown>(Chana Dal)

1/4 cup split Pigeon Peas(Toor Dal)

2 tbsp split and dehusked Black Gram Lentils(Urad Dal)

1 and 1/2 cup Grated Bottle Gourd(Dudhi)

1/4 cup Coriander(Dhaniya)

1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste

1/2 tsp Chilly Paste

1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder

1/4 cup Water

Salt as per taste

1/2 tsp Fruit Salt(We have to add fruit salt again while making)

For Making Handvo:-

2-3 tbsp Oil

1 tsp Mustard Seeds

1 tsp Cumin seeds(Jeera)

1/2 tsp Asafoetida(Hing)

1/2 tsp Sesame Seeds

Method:

For Handvo Batter:-

In a bowl,add raw rice,Chana dal,toor dal,urad dal and wash and soak it for 4 hours.

After 4 hours, Take mixture in mixer jar and add dahi and make paste and ferment it for 8-12 hours.

After 8-12 hours,mix the batter and add grated bottle gourd, coriander,ginger garlic paste,chilli paste,turmeric powder, water,salt and make a thick batter.

Divide the batter in 2 equal parts and in 1 part,add fruit salt and mix well.

For Making Handvo:-

In a  Kadhai,add oil,mustard seeds,cumin seeds and let it splatter.

Once it Splatters,Add hing and sesame seeds. 

Once sesame seeds colour changes,add the batter and cook it for 5-6 minutes on one side. You don't need to spread it more.

After it cooks from both sides,take handvo in a plate and serve it with green chutney,sauce and tea!


Note/Tip:

For Handvo Batter:-

1. If you don't eat garlic,you can add chilli paste which i have added.

For Making Handvo:-

1. Because of unfavorable conditions,i didn't get curry leaves,it tastes good if you add.
