SAMO RICE

Samo Rice (Vrat ke Chawal)

The samo rice is served along with a special farali kadhi that makes a great meal on fasting days.Samo rice is usually made on navrati,mahashivratri fasting or other hindu fasting.Samo(Vari)is also known as varai,samak and vrat ke chawal.



Prepration Time:15 Minutes

Cooking Time:20 Minutes


Total Time: 35 Minutes


Ingredients:                                   

1 cup samo(vari)

1 green chillis chopped(optional)


1 tbsp peanuts(optional)


2 tbsp Ginger/chilli grated


2 Curd/Yogurt


1 tbsp ghee/oil


1 tsp.Cumin seeds


6-7 curry leaves


2 cups water


Rock Salt(as per taste).


Method:

Rinse the samo (vari) with water and drain water.     


Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds,curry leaves and ginger/chilli paste.



 Add chopped green chilies cook for a minute.

Then add vari rice (samo) and mix well. Let it roast on medium heat for a minute. Keep stirring continuously.



Add hot water and salt to taste.Cover and cook on medium heat.




Samo (vari chawal) will soak the water.Let it simmer in boiling water for 5-7 minutes in low flame. 

Then add  curd and mix it well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes on low flame.

Tasty samo rice is ready to serve with vrat kadhi.
